SYSTEM AT A GLANCE

A social-video identity designed as a kit of editorial actions.

The visual record begins with the whole family: brand motion, information objects, mobile compositions and the production interface. Seeing several states together makes the system—not a single finished frame—the subject of the case study.

MOTION RECORD

Editorial motion in use.

The record shows both sides of the project: a configurable editorial system for everyday production, and the logo and end-screen motion that hold the language together.

CONTEXT

A visual identity used by many hands.

HuffPost needed a more contemporary social-video language that could remain coherent inside daily, decentralised production. The commission combined art direction, logo motion, thumbnail principles and a set of roughly fifteen editorial objects—not as separate deliverables, but as one production system.

GRAPHIC GRAMMAR

Direct, legible and mobile-first.

Typography, colour, scale and emphasis were reduced to a small set of repeatable relationships. The same grammar covers information, narration, attribution and branding without turning every video into an identical composition.

RESPONSIVE BEHAVIOUR

One component, two editorial formats.

Selected objects adapt between 16:9 and 9:16 through format-aware layout rules. Text, scale and position remain editable while the underlying hierarchy is protected.

DEVELOPMENT

The art direction becomes a production tool.

Components were structured in After Effects, given expression-based behaviour and exposed through Essential Graphics. Editors can make the useful choices in Premiere Pro without reopening the source composition.

ERGONOMICS

Expose decisions, not implementation.

Controls cover format, position, scale, colour, emphasis and animation where those choices serve production. Internal dependencies and construction logic remain hidden.

TESTING

Refined through editorial use.

Templates were tested with the video team in Premiere Pro and adjusted through feedback. The result is a coherent social-video language that supports routine production without treating each graphic as a bespoke animation.

BEHANCE PROJECT RECORD

Original project notes, preserved and expanded.

The visual selection is concise; the project record remains complete. These notes retain the context, role, decisions and formats documented on Behance.

For HuffPost, I designed a new graphic foundation for social video, combining art direction, motion design and the development of editorial graphic objects.

The objective was twofold: create a more contemporary identity for the publisher’s videos, and build a simple, ergonomic system that journalists and editors could use directly in Premiere Pro. The project produced around fifteen OGE templates, logo animations, overlays, thumbnail templates and behaviours designed around real newsroom use.

The visual grammar is social, direct and mobile-first. It covers vertical Instagram and TikTok videos, 16:9 formats for YouTube and the website, fast journalist-led edits, and stories requiring sources, quotations, figures, credits, subtitles and narrative markers.

Each object was developed in After Effects to remain editable in Premiere Pro. The templates were refined iteratively with the video team through real production tests. The result is more than a package: it is a living graphic system for everyday publishing.
